Bala Lake Railway

Bala Lake Railway offers a delightful 9-mile return journey alongside Bala Lake (Llyn Tegid), through the beautiful and natural Snowdonia National Park.

Nestled in the upper Dee valley and for the most part running close to the shores of Llyn Tegid (Bala Lake), the largest natural lake in Wales, the Bala Lake Railway offers magnificent views of the southern Snowdonia countryside and the nearby peaks. The narrow-gauge steam engines which once worked the slate quarries of north Wales are now quite at home taking tourists on the 9-mile return journey between the village of Llanuwchllyn, with its charming country station, and Bala. There’s always a warm welcome and a hot cup of tea waiting at the railway’s homely little café and its associated gift shop.
